I am constantly drawn to using metal, and also towards what I consider to be interesting found objects.
My starting point for this body of work was to follow my impetus to use objects which I had found.
I began to weld together discarded scraps of metal. The process is fascinating; especially the point where the metal is hot enough to be joined, and the fraction of difference in time to the point where you burn through. Watching the pool of molten metal move and experimenting with different effects is memorizing, and involved.
Within the context of the transformation of the ordinary, I have been looking at the work of Fischli and Weiss, and Roger Hiorn’s Seizure.
Initially I would like the viewer to be intrigued and to find the sculptures accessible; but then to be engaged through the extra layers of detail.
The sculptures have been constructed from discarded items.
In effect the works are found objects which I have chosen, manipulated, and welded together.
