Anomalies

My current work develops themes which have emerged from an ongoing fascination with the human body and its capacity for change, adaptation and renewal.

I am interested in the ways in which the human body regulates itself, and the consequences of these regulatory systems malfunctioning. This work explores the external manifestations of these internal failures, often the first indication that something has gone ’wrong’.

I am also interested in the evolutionary process by which some of these ‘malfunctions’ result in a more successful version of an organism, and this abnormality progresses forward to become the ‘norm’ through natural selection. What we see as anomalies are actually alternative paths for development full of exciting repercussive potential, and not merely interesting biological dead-ends.

The work I have made for the show explores ideas of regulation, abnormality, and the evolutionary process, both real and imagined.
