Re occurring themes of nature and nurture; states of being appear in Joanna’s work; A debate echoed in the contrast of ideas & techniques. In transition her work takes on new technologies and materials as she explores her multi layered approach to perception, memory, identity.

Using the classic theme of chess and its power pieces these works begin with white as neutral point of purity, innocence and transparency. Jigsaw and trellis screens are ordered and veil the negotiation over identity, power and personality development in response to life situations where we merely seek to retain a degree of control.
