The paintings in this exhibition represent the opposite of a utopian world, where all is equal, balanced and perfect. These images come from an internal landscape that is a truly dystopian and anxious theatre – an internal world governed by negative aspects of self and their dynamic impact on daily life and personal relationships. These narrative paintings slip and slide between the real and the imagined – between fantasy and phantasy.
Scott Green works on several themes at any one time and the paintings exhibited here are selected from those themes, which include: Imaginary Beings and the Shadows of Intimacy; the Familial and the Fugitive; Compassion and Wisdom; the latter being an ironic title given to images reworked from contemporary conflict photography.
Scott Green is Head of Art at the University of Derby, having studied Fine Art (painting and printmaking) at Birmingham during the 1970s and Art and Psychotherapy at the University of Sheffield in the early 1990s.
Scott Green has exhibited throughout the UK and also in Germany, Greece, Russia, Belgium and Kazakhstan.
